STRIVE's Data System

Literacy Success

Teachers, leaders, and coaches have long used data informed instruction to enhance their teaching and improve learner outcomes.  Being data informed is about using a body of evidence that recognizes students’ strengths and challenges and identifies goals to ensure student success.  STRIVE’s Data System: A how to on planning, teaching, and assessing reading groups is a must for an elementary teacher. It contains over 200 pages of practical ready-to-go strategies and tons of free downloadable resources and videos.

The system includes all the components needed for teacher success with data-informed instruction:

  • First, use a Focus Folder to group students using benchmark data and a body of evidence and keep data meetings focused on positive student impact (growth and achievement)
  • Then, use the Focus Folder to provide instruction in core (whole group and small group), intervention, and enrichment
  • Then, use Targeted Activities and Active Engagement Strategies to scaffold whole group core instruction, target small group core instruction, close gaps during intervention and extend during enrichment
  • Next, teach and track the progress of your instruction using Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycles
  • Finally, determine what Literacy Structures can be strengthened and added using Focus Folders and PDSAs to improve teacher practice and learner outcomes

Coaching Enhancements

The Coaching Enhancement will guide you in developing a coaching plan that allows you to prioritize and differentiate support for teachers in implementing Focus Folders and PDSAs to strengthen the Literacy Structures at your school.
This training is split into two sections: The Why and The How. Watch the videos and complete the activities to deepen your knowledge of Literature Circles and why they are an impactful practice to improve comprehension in your classroom.
